BigBear PaddleFest 2008 will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, 2008 on the North Shore of Big Bear Lake. Nestled in the San Bernardino Mountains, Big Bear Lake is just 2 ˝ hours from most Southern California locations.  Twenty-two miles of shoreline provides fun and a challenge for every paddler. Join us Saturday for exhibits, demonstrations and clinics, and Sunday for a 10K Race and 5K Fun Paddle.

Pre-Race Activities – Saturday, July 12, 2008

On-water clinics for beginner, intermediate and advanced paddlers taught by local kayak and canoe instructors. (Clinic Fee is $15.00.)

Clinics

Canoeing 101 – safely entering and exiting your canoe, some useful paddle strokes, canoe essentials

Kayaking 101 – safely entering and exiting your kayak, some useful paddle strokes, kayak essentials

Kayak Self Rescue – wet exit and re-entry, essential gear

Kayak Rolling – yes, you can

Paddle board demonstration.

Outdoor-industry sports exhibit, including Keen Footwear, Danuu Canoe and Kayak Covers, Smith Optics, and Equada Outfitters, among others.

Boat demos with Emotion and Seda kayaks and canoes

Local photographers and adventurers Cathleen Calkins and Scott Cordner will offer a slide presentation of their kayak expedition to Central Siberia’s Lake Baikal, the world’s oldest and deepest fresh water lake.

Race Day – Sunday, July 13, 2008

Sunday 10K Race will begin and finish at Captain John’s Fawn Harbor Marina in Grout Bay. Racers will follow an out and back route to the Big Bear Lake dam inside the 5-mile buoy markers.

Sunday 5K Fun Paddle will take place in Grout Bay and follow a figure 8 pattern.

Race Fee - $50.00

Register online by July 4. (Late and on-site registration will be available for $75.) Visa, MasterCard, American Express or money order will be accepted.

Boat Rentals
